Caradale's aim is to produce clay products in an environmentally friendly
way, having due regard to relevant legislation on air emissions, water discharge and land use.  The company recognises the importance of manufacturing products without undue damage to the flora and fauna surrounding its operations and with respect for the continued health of
both employees and neighbours.  We subscribe to the principles of BATNEEC as applicable to our operations; developing systems and altering processes and plant to continually improve our environmental performance.  We aim to source materials from environmentally conscious companies and operators
and endeavour not to use industrial waste products that may cause physical
damage to our environment or are of a visual blight on our landscape.

The company has authorisation to operate both Etna and Mayfield factories under the Environmental Protection Act 1995 (EPA), which is managed by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).  Internal management involves regular visual and olfactory checks on factory pollutant and noise emissions and liaison meetings are held at regular interviews by West Lothian District Council at which interested community, government and media parties
are free to attend.

The growing awareness and interest of the general public in matters
relating to the environment will place increasing pressure on the company
to control its production operations in line with ever tightening legislative requirements.  Management recognises the long-term need to upgrade its production facilities, to make employees fully aware of the company's obligations and to maintain the support of local communities in matters
relating to the environment.
